Short IEEE Bio

Ahmed Hassan Yousef (SM'11) is currently the Vice President of Egypt University of Informatics for academic affairs since February 2023 and a Professor in Computer Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt since 2017. He was the Chair for IEEE, Egypt Section from 2020-2023. He was an awardee of the token of appreciation for the exemplary service for hosting IEEE region 8 meeting, Cairo, October 2022.  He is also a member in Region 8 subcommittee of section vitality and development 2022-2023 and served as a member of Region 8 ad-hoc committee for crisis management in 2022. He is also the membership development committee chair of IEEE, Africa Council in 2023, and a steering committee member of AFRICON 2023.  He is a volunteer in the IEEE Computer Society as the area coordinator of Africa (Area 6) within Region 8 (Europe, Middle East and Africa). Moreover, He served in the computer society as a Richard E. Merwin scholarship reviewer in 2023. He participated in fund raising for many events including Global Conference of Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things, 2022 and IEEE Region 8 North Africa Student and Young Professional Congress, 2023. He served as a conference co-chair for Japan Africa Conference, 2023 and Model and Data Engineering Conference, 2022. He is a well known keynote speaker in many events, including Japan Africa Conference, 2018, AICCSA Conference 2023, MISTA Conference, 2022 and 2024.  

IEEE Awards for Egypt Section

During his term as a chair of IEEE Egypt section, Egypt Section has been awarded the following awards:

 

On the national level, he is the head of the national committee of Communication and Information Technology, Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, Egypt, from 2023-2026. He is an IT Strategic Expert who updated Egypt agenda vision 2030, sustainable development agenda for Digital Infrastructure, Digital Economy, Digital Inclusion and Cyber security in 2018-2019, On the regional level, he was an ISISCO expert who participated in the concept note of PIREN (Pan Islamic Research and Education Network) in 2016, An ALECSO expert in 2023 who organized the workshop of “Big Data and Sustainable Development Goals, Cairo 2023” with 30 speakers, Head of the founding committees of Computer Science and Engineering and the Leadership Selection Manual for the Galala University, King Salman University, New Mansoura University and Alamin International University during 2018-2020. Former Strategic Planner for Information Technology in Higher Education and representing MoHE and SCU in Digital Transformation National Committees and Egyptian Knowledge Bank. He was also the founder of TOP IT, a training and consultation firm that provided services in Europe, Middle East and Africa.


Previous Positions

Ahmed Hassan Yousef was the Dean of Information Technology and Computer Science school, Nile University between February 2018 and January 2023. He was the director of the Electronic and Knowledge Services Center, Supreme Council of Universities from 2014 - 2018. He was with the information and communication technology project (ICTP), Ministry of Higher Education during the interval 2008- 2014 as the managing director after being the deputy director. He was the Founder and the managing Director of TOP IT Company from 2000-2008, working with several Multi-national projects. 


Scientific Contribution

He has published more than 80 papers in international conferences and journals. His research interest includes software engineering, parallel algorithms and data mining. Dr. Hassan is actively serving as a reviewer in several journal and conference publications including IEEE conferences. He severed as an editor to Ain Shams Engineering journal and as a technical program committee member and chaired several conference sessions over the years.


IEEE Experience

Ahmed Hassan Yousef was the IEEE, Egypt section chair from 2020 to 2023. He worked with the executive committee of Egypt section to achieve IEEE mission during COVID-19. Therefore, the section and affiliating organization units organized many online events including the digital version of Egyptian Engineering Day, more than ten scientific conferences in several cities, an international hackathon and many online events with distinguished guest including IEEE president candidate and region 8 current Director Elect. Moreover, many organization units are established or reactivated including Women in Engineering.

Ahmed H Yousef was also the vice chair for chapter operation from 2016 to 2019. In addition, He initiated and managed the elections of several chapters and represented the section in Valencia Region 8 meeting 2019. He was the IEEE, Egypt section secretary for four years 2012-2015. At that time, his role was to guide the IEEE in good Governance practices. He supervised the keeping of records of meetings, activities, membership and any other records required by IEEE law. He participated with the treasurer in the preparation the Egyptian file of the “Best Section Award, 2014”. He presented also the section in the IEEE section Congress, Amsterdam, 2014. He participated as a speaker in a lot of IEEE events, managed by the Egyptian section, young professional or student branches. As a board member, he participated in the organization of the yearly EED.

Ahmed Hassan Yousef received his Ph.D., M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees from Ain Shams University, Egypt, in 2004, 2000 and 1995, respectively.

Member Recruitment Recognition 2022

In spite of currency devalution, the number of IEEE members in Egypt has increased a lot in 2022. Although most of them were student members and graduate student members, they added a lot of vibrancy and energy to the section.

Quality Time, Iftar Ramadan 2019, Nile University

Ramadan 2020 was characterized by social distance due to COVID-19. The memory of 2019 made a difference with me. It showed how lovely was the gathering.
